Bake Stays Cold While Broil Is Normal

Check, in this order

Two heat sources, one set of controls
Bake and broil share the dial, not the parts: on Viking’s glow-bar gas ranges the thermostat runs bake through its own igniter and valve, and broil through another pair. A working broiler proves the oven has power and a working control.
Viking’s service manuals list the bake-side suspects. Glow-bar ranges: the thermostat’s bake contacts, the bake igniter or the bake valve’s heater coil. Spark-ignition self-clean ranges: the spark module if bake never clicks, the bake valve if it clicks and stays unlit. Electric wall ovens: the element, its wiring or the control relay.
Stop and call if
- On a gas oven the igniter glows or clicks and no flame follows.
- There is any smell of gas: leave first, then call the gas utility or 911 from outside.
- The bake element shows a split, a blister or sparks.

Can I bake with the broiler until the repair?
Not usefully. Broil heats from the top only, at full output, so cakes and roasts scorch on top and stay raw underneath. Keep broil for broiling, and book the bake side with Viking Repair Redmond on (425) 585-2373 before the next big bake.
Why would bake stop right after gas work in the house?
On Viking's spark-ignition self-clean ranges, the service manual lists air in the gas line as one reason bake clicks without lighting once a line has been opened. Purging it is gas fitter or technician work. Switching the oven off and back on once is fine.
