Viking Oven Error Codes and Readings — Redmond Reference
A code on the display, or a lamp that behaves wrongly, each worked through as a numbered check. When a check fails, Viking Repair Redmond is on (425) 585-2373.
Viking has shipped several generations of oven controls, and the same F-number does not mean the same thing on each. Every code page names the control family it applies to and the Viking service document it was checked against.
Readings are what the oven does when there is no code at all: a preheat light that never goes out, a burner that glows but never lights, a lock that stays on after self-clean. Most calls start here, not with a code.

Codes on the display
- F1 Viking Oven F1 F1 is a shorted oven sensor on the VGSO166 and a door-latch fault on EOC4 electric ovens
- F2 Viking Oven F2 F2 points at the oven temperature sensor: open on the VGSO166, open or shorted on EOC4
- F3 Viking Oven F3 F3 is a controller fault on the VGSO166 and a cooling-fan fault on EOC4 electric ovens
- F4 Viking Oven F4 On EOC4 Viking wall ovens F04 means the meat probe input is shorted, a non-critical fault
- F6 Viking Oven F6 F06 on an EOC4 Viking wall oven means the control cannot read its model header
- F7 Viking Oven F7 F07 on EOC4 Viking electric wall ovens means the door was open during a self-clean
- F8 Viking Oven F8 F08 on an EOC4 Viking wall oven means the control and its front panel have lost contact
Readings with no code
- Preheat Light Never Goes Out A preheat light that stays lit means the oven never reaches the temperature you set
- Preheat Signal Comes Before the Oven Is Hot The preheat light goes out, yet a rack thermometer still reads well below your setting
- Igniter Glows Orange but the Burner Never Lights A glow-bar that glows but never lights usually draws too little current to open the valve
- Oven Reads 25–50°F Off a Rack Thermometer When the oven temperature is off by 25 to 50°F it is at or past Viking's service limit
- Lock Light Stays On After Self-Clean After a self-clean the lock light stays on until the oven has cooled, which can take a while
- Cooling Fan Keeps Running After Shutoff A cooling fan running after the oven is off is usually still doing its job as it cools
- Clock Flashing, Controls Unresponsive A flashing clock with a dead panel usually follows a power interruption; a few checks settle it
- Panel Beeps Continuously With No Code A Viking oven panel that keeps beeping with no code on the display is worth a few quick checks
- Bake Element Glows in Patches (Electric / Dual Fuel) A bake element that glows in patches, or shows a dark gap, is failing and heats unevenly
- Bake Stays Cold While Broil Is Normal When broil heats and bake stays cold, the bake side of the circuit or its igniter is at fault
- Convection Fan Silent While Heat Is Normal If the oven heats but the convection fan never turns, check the mode first, then call
- Meat Probe Reads Wrong or Not at All A meat probe that reads wrong or not at all is usually the probe or its socket, not the oven
- Breaker Trips During Preheat An oven that trips its breaker while heating has a fault, in the oven or on its circuit
- Door Won't Seal: Heat at the Knobs Heat at the knobs means the door is not sealing; the gasket or the hinges usually cause it
- Cycle or Clean Light Flashing, No Code Some Viking electric wall ovens flash the Cycle and Clean lights instead of showing a code
- Oven Flame on One Side Only One-sided flame points to a weak igniter, low gas pressure or one burner left unlit
- Gas Oven Stops Heating and Will Not Relight On Viking self-clean gas ranges the spark control locks out after failed lighting attempts
